Here's the judges' leaderboard after last night's performances:
1. Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke - 29
2. Lil' Kim and Derek Hough - 26
2. Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas - 26
4. Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani - 25
5. Chuck Wicks and Julianne Hough - 23
6. David Alan Grier and Kym Johnson - 22
7. Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower - 21
8. Lawrence Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska - 20
9. Steve-O and Lacey Schwimmer - 18
Let's get right down to business, shall we? In no particular order, the first couple who definitely will be back is Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas. (I hope the ruffles on her dress won't come back, though.) Joining them are Lil' Kim and Derek Hough.
Back from the break, we have our first musical guest performer of the evening. Performing her signature hit "At Last" is Etta James, with Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy dancing in accompaniment. (Karina's hair is straight tonight, which I am so glad of because I was really hating her frizzy ringlets.) I'm not sure whether tweens would prefer Etta James over the next musical act of the evening (Demi Lovato), but I think she is superb. Karina and Maks have amazing chemistry together onstage, I can only imagine what these recently engaged lovebirds must be like when the cameras are off.
Backstage, Samantha is back with Ty and Chelsie, and Steve-O and Lacey. Ty says that if he has to dance off, he'll try to tap into the dancer inside of him better. Steve-O tells Samantha that he needs a 12 percent edge in audience votes to stay in the game.
It's time to announce the next two couples who are safe. The first of these couples is Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke (woo!). The second couple safe is Steve-O and Lacey Schwimmer! Hey, I predicted that he'd be in the bottom two, but then would be safe. I'm only partially right.
There are five couples who await their fate. In no particular order, the next couple who will be back next week is Chuck Wicks and Julianne Hough. Also safe are Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani.
