ABC's Dancing with the Stars is launching a kid-centric spin-off called Dancing with the Stars Junior, which will pair celebrity kids and kids of celebrities with professional junior ballroom dancers to perform choreographed routines. It's been done before with shows like MasterChef and Project Runway -- both of which have done quite well on their respective networks. But will the latest DWTS spin-off succeed or is it doomed to fail?

Unfortunately, not all junior editions of reality competition shows are destined to be a big hit -- look at what happened to So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation and American Juniors, which both took an enormous plunge in ratings compared to their original versions. In the case of Dancing with the Stars Junior, there's a big possibility it will suffer the same fate.
While the format is essentially the same -- couples will perform choreographed routines in hopes of impressing a panel of judges and America in order to make it to the finals and win the Mirrorball Trophy -- the junior edition of the ABC dance competition series might just not have the same pull as its flagship series. Who would want to watch celebrity children dancing? I guess it all depends on the right cast and the combination of judges. Still, it's a pretty bold move for ABC given the odds.
What do you think of Dancing with the Stars Junior? Will it flop or does it have a chance to be a hit? Who do you think should be in the panel of judges? Which child celebrities do you want to see dancing?
Dancing with the Stars Junior is set to premiere next spring. Meanwhile, the Dancing with the Stars season 24 finale airs Monday, May 22 at 8/7c and Tuesday, May 23 at 8:30/7:30c on ABC.
