Born on May 12, 1984 in Northern California, Cheryl Burke studied at Las Lomitas Elementary School and graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School. She started dancing when she was just four years old. Her pursuit of dancing proved to be rewarding as this enabled her to travel to different parts of the world. In addition, she was able to compete on several dance competitions, earning numerous awards like 2005 World Cup Latin Professional Rising Star Champion, 2005 Ohio Star Ball Rising Star Champion, and 2005 San Francisco Open Latin Champion, not to mention several nominations.
