We’ve all heard about the 13 celebrity contestants who will be competing in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars but it seems that the hit ABC series has left the door open for one more.  Word on the street is that Holly Madison, also known as Hugh Hefner’s former number 1 girlfriend on The Girls Next Door and, most recently, illusionist Criss Angel’s ex-girlfriend, is joining the competitive dance series to replace country singer Jewel, who has been struggling with a knee injury.

As BuddyTV reported last week, Jewel has been diagnosed with tendonitis.  And if her knee injury doesn't heal soon, she could miss her chance on Dancing with the Stars, which returns for its eighth season on March 9.

Despite the minor setback, Jewel released a statement, asserting that she’s determined to hit the dance floor.

"I am dedicated to getting better and showing the judges and America that I can cha cha with the best of them.  Don't count me out, as I am in this for the long run," she told Us Weekly.

An ABC rep would not comment on the casting change, but a source close to Jewel reveals that she’ll still be appearing on the show Monday.  Meanwhile, Girls Next Door co-star Bridget Marquardt has already let the cat out of the bag by informing FOXNews.com that being on Dancing with the Stars is like fulfilling a long-time dream for 29-year-old Madison.  Evidently, she has always wanted to appear on the show but the timing has never been right.

"I'm so excited for her," Marquardt said.  "She's wanted to do it for so long, it just never worked with her schedule and Hef was always like 'I don't want you to do that,' and now it's her time, so I'm really happy for her."
