Osmond said in a statement, "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time."
Michael is one of Marie's kids with her music producing ex-husband Brian Blosil's seven kids, five of whom, including Michael, are adopted. At 16, he entered a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons.
The catastrophe is the latest in the string of trials for the 50-year-old performer, starting from her first divorce with first husband Stephen Craig in 1985 to her oldest daughter Jessica being outed by tabloids last year.
In November 2007, the Osmond family patriarch George died while Marie was competing on
Dancing With the Stars in the morning of week seven's results show. She fainted during the judges' critique two weeks earlier.
Marie herself dealt with suicide rumors in 2006 after hospitalization in Utah.
She and brother Donny, who won
Dancing with the Stars last season, have indefinitely canceled their Vegas show at the Flamingo Hotel.
