Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars begins next week and already the speculation on who stands the best chance of winning is fueling conversations across the internet.  There is, however, another conversation of great interest to everyone.  Who will be the first to be voted off.  A lot of people think they have this figured out.  I'm one of them.  Alex Reed.  Looking at the history of Dancing with the Stars, there is no clear pattern.

Dancing with the Stars Season 1

Trista Rehn Sutter and Louis van Amstel are the first to be eliminated, even though they were not the lowest scoring couple. Sutter was a reality show competitor having been a Bachelor contestant as well as the first Bachelorette. She was also the most lacking of ‘legitimate' celebrity.


Dancing with the Stars Season 2

ESPN Anchor Kenny Mayne and Andrea Hale are the first to go. Kenny Mayne is, naturally, very well known in the sports world. But was his celebrity status deprecated in the prime time reality competition arena? Again, the judges scores do not guide the audience. The judges scored rapper Master P the lowest.


Dancing with the Stars Season 3

Abrasive MSNBC political commentator Tucker Carlson and Elena Grinenko are the first to go. The performance is awful, Carlson is, as you might guess, not only lacking charisma but a bi-partisan base, and for the first time ever the viewers side with the judges. Carlson earned a pitiful 12.


Dancing with the Stars Season 4

Beauty and grace did not help supermodel Paulina Porizkova and her partner Alec Mazo. If you're thinking that a total lack of entertainment credits will work against you, here is your proof of concept. Paulina was most certainly not the worst performer, but she was definitely the least known to a mainstream audience.


So there you have it. If there is a pattern, it is that the lowest scoring couple is not necessarily the first to go.
