Dancing with the Stars 5: Top 11 Results Recap
Tuesday, October 02, 2007

Here we go again, the Dancing with the Stars results show.  The challenge for ABC here is to make five minutes of information into a full hour of entertainment.  So there will be guests, Queen Latifah and Jimmy Kimmel, and the protracted procession of 'saved' celebs leading down to the final two in the red light.  What are your predictions?

The beginning of the show rounds up the scoring from yesterday, an unheard of five-way 21 tie, Mark Cuban's slip to the teens, and Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough's one point lead over premiere week favorite Sabrina Bryan.  Some sad news comes concerning Jane Seymour, her mother passed away last night.  Turns out Seymour was in the contest mostly because of her mother's love of the show.  She was not present for the results night, but it is revealed that she is safe, and will be returning next week to compete.

The guest star segments are entertaining, for different reasons.  Queen Latifah is fantastic, and people want to know when she will return to rap, but she could perform like this forever as far as I'm concerned.  Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo take us for a tour of the voting process and it turns out that the Count from Sesame Street tabulates the vote.  At least the accuracy isn't going to be in question.

As far as the eliminations go, the big surprise early in the hour was the save of Mark Cuban.  Cuban was in the bottom last week and scored rock bottom this week, so he obviously pulled in some serious votes. Floyd Mayweather also managed to squeak by.

The bottom two wound up being what Carrie dubbed "The underdog and the legend,"  Wayne Newton and Albert Reed.  If you would expect Wayne's celebrity to keep him in the game, you're right.  But this is how Dancing with the Stars rolls in the early rounds.  And that closes Dancing with the Stars for this week.
