Could Kendra be the new Bristol?

Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

Probably not. But last night's elimination of Sugar Ray Leonard instead of the low-scoring Kendra Wilkinson does raise questions as to why the reality star knocked out the boxer. What combination of popularity, audience appeal and dancing led to the results we got?

Honestly, it's hard to say for sure. And -- probably -- nobody will ever know. This means it's time to speculate, so here are some theories:

Voters went with technique over performance.
Neither Kendra nor Sugar Ray is a great dancer. That said, Kendra definitely has the better technique, while Sugar Ray puts on a better show. It's usually the judges who come down hard on the low-technique performers, but maybe the audience has picked up a few tips.

Sugar Ray failed to connect with viewers.
Sure, the guy is super-famous, but that doesn't mean that dancing fans will like him. Along with his cheerful attitude, Sugar Ray brought a fair amount of arrogance and swagger to his Dancing with the Stars stint. Add to this the fact that he never managed to perform without throwing in some boxing moves, and Sugar Ray suddenly becomes a long shot.

Kendra is more popular than suspected.
She's been on a couple of reality shows on a basic-cable network. There's that whole notoriety associated with being Hugh Hefner's former girlfriend. But you wouldn't think this would make someone more popular than a legendary, world-champion boxer.

Apparently you'd be wrong.

Kendra's possible popularity is also a warning for a few of the other Dancing with the Stars contestants. Celebrities like Chelsea Kane and Petra Nemcova are not exactly household names, and neither star has shown evidence of winning fans to their causes. If Kendra keeps up some decent dancing (and if neither of the others shines), then she might just outlast the competition.

It was close, but someone had an edge over Sugar Ray.
Due to the vagaries of the Dancing with the Stars voting process, we will never know how close or not-close Kendra (or anybody else) came to elimination. Nor do we know if Sugar Ray almost stayed. There could have been as little as a couple of votes separating the bottom contestants. But DWTS is an all-or-nothing affair.

Why do you think Sugar Ray went home? Were you surprised? Does Kendra have staying power, or is she next in line for elimination? Let us know in the comments section!
