Health scares are becoming a dime a dozen on
Dancing with the Stars these days. Just days after
Julianne Hough found out that her stomach pains that required a trip to the hospital were because of a condition called endometriosis, her fellow
Dancing with the Stars professional,
Lacey Schwimmer, has found out that she has the disease as well.
Lacey Schwimmer, who rose to national fame on FOX's
So You Think You Can Dance before changing networks and joining
Dancing with the Stars, found out today that she is in the early stages of the condition that causes uterine tissue to grow outside of the uterus.
“A few days ago, I started feeling very shaky, very weak, and I had awful cramps … I didn't really know what was going on,” Lacey told
The Insider. “I went to go get checked out today and I actually have the beginning onset of what Julianne has.”
Endometriosis is a common but often painful condition that afflicts 5 to 10 percent of women. Since she and her doctors caught the disease in the early stages, surgery will not be necessary for her. She is currently taken medication and will continue dancing with
Lance Bass.
“It hurts very bad,” Lacey said. “Right now I'm insanely weak, and the room is spinning.”
Earlier this week, Julianne Hough went under the knife for a procedure related to her condition. Doctors removed her appendix because there was a chance that it would become infected by endometriotic cysts.
Edyta Sliwinska will take over coaching duties for Julianne's partner,
Cody Linley, while she recovers from surgery.
Lacey Schwimmer is paired with former *NSYNC member Lance Bass. This week was the first week in which they topped the judges' leaderboard, inching out former frontrunners
Brooke Burke and
Derek Hough by a single point. Both teams will be back to dance again next week.
Will Lance and Lacey be able to retain their top spot on the leaderboard next week?
