If the ratings were any indication, not a lot of people were keen to see the outcome of Dancing with the Stars this season. Around 19.2 million people tuned in to ABC to see Donny Osmond take home the mirror ball trophy, the smallest audience for the show's finale since its inaugural season - and, ironically so, in the same one with the biggest cast of celebrities.

And it wasn't a bad show at all. After all, comeback-ing diva Whitney Houston performed back to back tracks, including "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" while five couples took the dance floor, including fan favorites Mark Ballas, Lacey Schwimmer, Cheryl Burke, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Sixteen couples started off the battle on Dancing with the Stars, until the filed was narrowed down to the final three, and eventually one - showbiz legend Donny Osmond. The ratings this season, however, had not been promising.

The trend is noteworthy, considering that throughout Dancing with the Stars' eight seasons, no other show had been capable of usurping its hold on the ratings leader board, except juggernaut American Idol on Fox.

To cite, the show's performance episodes this season averaged around 17.1 million viewers, 10 percent lower than last season and 15 percent than the one before that. The results show fared even more miserably.

Some attribute the downturn in the massive cast this season - 16 - three couples more than last season's 13 and a far cry from the rookie season's 6. With more and more controversial and arguable results at its helm, however, it's easy to figure out why more and more people are deciding to sit Dancing with the Stars out.
