This is not a good fall for Anna Trebunskaya.
First, she faced an early elimination from Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars with partner Drew Lachey. And now she is getting a divorce from fellow professional dancer, Jonathan Roberts.
According to a report published on
People.com, Trebunskaya and Roberts have agreed to end their marriage of nine years. The soon-to-be-former spouses released a joint statement on Wednesday, October 17:
"We have enjoyed more than a decade of a very loving, loyal and happy relationship, but after much soul searching, we have decided to end our marriage. We are committed to staying friends and dance partners. We have immense respect for each other as people and performers."
The dancing couple have been professional partners since 2004 and have appeared as professionals on
Dancing with the Stars since the first season of that show. Initially, Anna performed only during filler dances on
DWTS: The Results Show, but she got her first celebrity partner, Jerry Rice, in season 2. She and Rice managed to place second in the competition, beaten by Drew Lachey and Cheryl Burke.
Trebunskaya returned for seasons 5 and 6 of the show, partnering with Albert Reed and Steve Guttenberg, respectively. After a few seasons away, Anna Trebunskaya returned for season 9 (with Chuck Liddell) and has been a pro-dancer on
Dancing with the Stars ever since.
Jonathan Roberts has had a limited role on
Dancing with the Stars than his wife in recent years, but he was far more prominent in the early seasons. Competing in seasons 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9, Roberts' best
DWTS finish came in season 5. He and Marie Osmond placed 3rd that season.
Anna Trebunskaya may have wanted to erase the sting of her season 2 defeat by partnering with that season's victor during the
Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars season. Instead, the couple fell to the double elimination in week 3 of the competition. Another former
DWTS champion, Helio Castroneves, left that week as well.
There has not yet been any comment from
Dancing with the Stars about the couple's divorce.
