Dancing with the Stars 7: Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson
Dancing with the Stars 7: Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson
When Dancing with the Stars returns in two weeks for a seventh season of chasses and chaine turns, we'll get to take our first looks at the 13 couples. It's fun to speculate which of the 13 couples will be the big contenders of the season. On today's agenda, I'll be taking a look at Warren Sapp's strengths and weaknesses. It wouldn't be Dancing with the Stars if we didn't have a football player on the roster, would it?

Warren Sapp

Pros:
There is a long tradition of grid-iron champs succeeding on Dancing with the Stars. Warren Sapp, the former Buccaneer and Raider, boasts 96.5 career sacks, the second highest total sacks for a defensive lineman. This man is strong and is no stranger to hard work and long, intense practices. He's going to need a lot of discipline to learn how to dance, and professional athletes don't get to be where they are by lounging around. Football players have to have enormous dexterity and nimbleness. They've got to be strong and powerful, but also quick and nimble and they need to be able to change directions quickly. These are all key traits that go into making a great dancer as well. Plus, he looks like he's got some moves in these pictures.

Cons:
Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice and Jason Taylor all became excellent dancers during their stints on the show, but one thing they have in common is that Warren Sapp outweighs all of them by at least 50 to 100 pounds. Warren is a large man. We'll have to wait until we see him hit the dance floor, but based on his physical appearance and nothing else, there's a chance that he might not be light enough on his feet.

Kym Johnson

Kym Johnson is undeniably a great dancer. She was a champion on the Australia's Dancing with the Stars. Actually, all the pros, Kym included, are proven world-class dancers with the titles and trophies to show for it. They are all good teachers and good choreographers, and they all look pleasingly comely in their ballroom costumes. But Kym's tenure on the American version of the competition shows evidence that maybe the bigger indicator of a team's success is not the pro but the celebrity.

For example, Kym had the misfortune of being paired with Penn Jillette and his two left feet last season. But when she had Joey Fatone as a partner in season 4, she made it all the way to second place. I think that if Warren has the aptitude to pick up the dance steps quickly, then Kym will be able to teach him well and the two will go far. If not, however, then she just might be SOL.
