Dancing with the Stars 7: Final Performance Rankings

Wow, what a finale! Last night's Dancing with the Stars final performance show featured tons of dancing, both pint-sized and full-grown. The winners of the Ballroom Kids competition, Craig and Samantha took a turn around the dance floor with a fun and energetic jive, while the three remaining couples in the competition engaged in all-out warfare in a Samba Smackdown and in the freestyle round. This was probably the closest, most competitive final performance in the history of Dancing with the Stars, but there's still one more performance tonight before we find out who the winning couple is.

Read on to see how I ranked last night's Dancing with the Stars performances.

SAMBA SMACKDOWN

3. Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson

Scores: 9+7+9=25.
Warren and Kym are probably the most fun and entertaining couple in the final three. They finished off the Samba Smackdown, and really brought the house down. Just being nitpicky, though, but because all the couples were dancing immediately one right after another to the same music, it was apparent that Warren's technique is definitely behind that of the other two.

2. Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer

Scores: 9+8+9=26.
Lance is a great performer, but he often needs to pay more attention to little details like his posture and his foot positions. However, I thought that he really held his own with his portion of the Samba Smackdown. He and Lacey put in a lot of cool-looking tricks into their choreography. If you look back at their first few performances from the season, you can really see how much Lance has improved.

1. Brooke Burke and Derek Hough

Scores: 9+9+10=28.
Brooke and Derek are pure poetry in motion when they dance traditional Latin styles. Their portion of the dance was fun, flirty and had highly difficult content. After this performance, Len declared that Brook is still the one to beat, and even though I pick on Len for often having a stick up his ass, the old man knows what he's talking about.

FREESTYLE ROUND

3. Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer

Scores: 9+9+9=27.
I'm such a big fan of the Lancey team that it kind of pains me to put their freestyle in last place. I expected so much out of their freestyle because they are such a quirky, different team, so I was a little bit disappointed when they decided to do a hip hop routine. It wasn't very hip or hop. They should have asked Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo for some help with their choreo, methinks.

2. Brooke Burke and Derek Hough

Scores: 10+10+10=30.
I liked the Grease concept of Brooke and Derek's freestyle, and I thought it was really well executed, but I don't think it quite deserved a perfect 30. It was fun and difficult and impressive, but I thought it was just a little bit sloppy. I kept noticing all the times when she didn't quite get her legs straight enough.

1. Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson

Scores: 9+10+9=28.
I'm putting Warren and Kym at the top of my rankings for the freestyle round because of the theatricality of their entire routine. I loved their slower-paced and very sexy intro, I loved the costume change that coincided with the increase in tempo. I know that Warren's technique isn't perfect, but based on entertainment value, he's tops in my book.
