It was a bronze medal, but it was enough.
Dancing with the Stars champion Apolo Anton Ohno became the most decorated US Winter Olympian in history, after finishing third and bagging a bronze in the men's short track 1,000 meters Saturday.
Ohno now has seven Winter Games medals.
Previous record-holder Bonnie Blair, also a speed skater, won six medals from the 1980s to 1990s.
"I really had to fight," he said following his victory. "I can't wait to watch the tape and see how I came back from last place to win bronze."
Indeed, 27-year-old Ohno started near the back of the pack in the nine-lap race. He recovered and even reached second spot, eventually slipping to third.
The bronze medal is an addition to Ohno's two gold's, two silver's, and two bronze's.
Aside from this record, Ohno is also one of the only four Americans who have won three medals in a single Winter Olympic games. He partnered with Julianne Hough and won
Dancing with the Stars season 4.
The other
Dancing with the Stars alum competing in the games didn't fare as well. Louie Vito finished fifth in the men's halfpipe on Wednesday, two places shy of a medal, with fellow Americans Shaun White and Scott Lago snagging the gold and the bronze respectively.
Peetu Piiroinen of Finland claimed the silver.
