This week,
In Touch Weekly reported the identities of six celebrities who will be appearing in the upcoming seventh season of ABC's dance juggernaut
Dancing with the Stars. According to an insider, these six are Grammy Award-winning soul singer Toni Braxton, celebreality princess Kim Kardashian, rodeo cowboy (and Jewel's boyfriend) Ty Murray, Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, former boy band member Lance Bass, and Florence Henderson, a.k.a. Carol Brady.
Well, at least one of these reports has been denied. The former Dolphins quarterback-turned-sports analyst, Dan Marino, has stated that despite the rumors circulating on the web, he will not be the next gridiron star to grace the ballroom stage.
Marino's business manager Ralph Stringer said that
Dancing with the Stars has been heavily courting Marino since the beginning of the show.
“It's just not something he's interested in doing,” Stringer said. “It's not a time commitment he's willing to make.”
All I can say to that is: Hmph!
Dancing with the Stars doesn't need Dan Marino anyway, so there! Granted, most of what I know about Dan Marino comes from his bland cameo in
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Laces out, Dan!), but I'm pretty confident that he's kind of a dud in front of the camera. Who needs that?
Besides, recently retired Oakland Raiders player
Warren Sapp has expressed interest in appearing on the show, and he would make a much more interesting contender than Dan Marino anyway. The 300-pound Sapp has the backing of the good folks over at
Sunday Night Football as well.
During the TCA press tour this summer, members of NBC's football coverage team discussed Warren Sapp's chances. According to John Madden, “[Warren Sapp is] going to be good. I'm predicting he'll win it. I'll take on all comers.”
We don't have too long to wait before we find out who will really be dancing this fall. The cast will be announced officially on
Good Morning America on August 25.
Dancing with the Stars season 7 will premiere on Monday, September 22.
