We are now in the seventh week of competition on
Dancing with the Stars season 6. Beginning this week, the teams were required to learn and perform two separate routines, one in a ballroom style and one in a Latin style, for the judges to score. Now, with double the amount of work, the dancers are becoming more susceptible to injury. And tonight, half-way through the samba, his second performance of the evening,
Cristian de la Fuente pulled a muscle in his arm.
Enduring the pain, he managed to finish the performance, but as soon as he stopped dancing, he grabbed his arm, wincing.
Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron decided to cut to commercial so that emergency medical personnel could attend to Cristian's arm.
The judges were appreciative of the fact that he kept dancing through the pain. Carrie Ann Inaba explained that they would only judge the pair based on their performance before the injury. She commended him for going "the whole round and that you were there for Cheryl." Head judge Len Goodman said he was "brave" to continue dancing.
However, the judges' high regard for Cristian's endurance did not altogether translate into high scores. They awarded him with sevens across the board, for a score of 21 out of 30, the lowest score of the evening.
Later on during the broadcast, Tom Bergeron told the audience that Cristian had been diagnosed with a severe muscle and that he had been brought to the hospital for further monitoring.
Cristian and his professional partner
Cheryl Burke ended the evening with a combined score of 46 out of 60, trailing the next two pairs by five whole points. Cristian and Cheryl, along with the five other couples, will find out their fates tomorrow night on the
Dancing with the Stars results show.
