Mixed are the reactions of
Dancing with the Stars fans on
the most recent batch of contestants on the ABC show. The usual rants are there, the most popular of which insists that some of the chosen ones are hardly "stars" as the title and premise of the show insinuate. Then there's the "she's overqualified" proposition, which, you have to admit, makes a lot of sense
.
Vote: Who's Your 'Dancing with the Stars' Pre-Season Favorite? The overqualified tag is the least of astronaut Buzz Aldrin's concerns. But the 80-year-old tells People.com that
Dancing with the Stars fans shouldn't take him for granted. Not only did he take Arthur Murray dance instruction in "the earlier years," he also went to many formal dances in his years at West Point.
"I come from strong Swedish stock and have been pretty good shape for a while," he says. "I walk pretty fast in the airport."
On the other side of the fence, some are calling lead Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger the overqualified for the dance competition, even drawing comparisons with Mya, last season's runner-up. She complains to
ET Online that while partner Derek Hough has been "wonderful" and that they were having a lot of fun, the rehearsals are punishing her feet.
"I've got blisters!" she says. "I've got the worst-looking feet right now!"
Kate Gosselin, finally, of
Jon and Kate Plus 8 infamy, says her
Dancing with the Stars experience is her "hugest fear ever" because of her lack of experience.
"I am all about new challenges, facing my fears," adds Gosselin, who revealed that there'll be
special rehearsal arrangements with partner Tony Dovolani so she can practice near her kids.
"He's a great teacher," the reality star says of her partner, "because this is not analytical thinking, this is not books, this is not schedule planning, this is like all that other art stuff, and he's very good at explaining what I need to do."
And even if some
Dancing with the Stars fans are critical of the mother of eight for taking on the show despite being busy with the kids, Tony praises her for being a "complete role model as a mom."
"She's the working mom, takes care of the family, comes into rehearsal completely focused, knows how important this is to be a great example to her kids, and that's exactly the attitude that she's taken on."
