ABC Giving Dancing With the Stars a Double Season
Thursday, November 16, 2006
After a phenomenal third season, ABC has decided another year is just too long to wait for ratings glory of the Dancing With the Stars Variety and is preparing a new troupe to take to the air as early as May. If the experience is a success, fans might get a double shot of Dancing With the Stars next season as well.
ABC's Jeff Bader told attendees at an International Radio & Television Society event in New York Wednesday that the second season of Dancing With the Stars would likely move from its Tuesday/Wednesday configuration to stay out of the way of American Idol.
The motivation behind this double shot? The final competition and final results shows of Dancing With the Stars bore the highest ratings of any show on television so far this season at 26.8million and 27.2 million respectively. Surely the decision not to compete with American Idol's barely superior numbers has networks on both sides of the move feeling a little safer.
An official announcement concerning the mid-season addition of Dancing With the Stars is expected soon.
