Most of the performers who are taking a shot at stardom on
Dance War are having their first taste of the world of competitive reality television. However, for one
Dance War contestant,
Zack Wilson, some of it might be familiar territory, at least second-hand.
Zack has a close connection to two of the professional dancers from
Dancing with the Stars, Julianne and
Derek Hough. The Houghs and Zack all honed their craft at the Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem, Utah. Derek and Zack knew each other as friends, while Julianne and Zack had a much more serious relationship.
You might remember hearing in May 2007 that Julianne was postponing her scheduled August wedding. At the time, the rumor mills were so busy linking her with her partner
Apolo Anton Ohno that they sometimes might have neglected to even name the fiancé they were claiming Julianne's dancing relationship had put out of the picture. But it was, in fact, Zack Wilson.
There doesn't appear to be a public consensus as to what their status currently is, but Zack has been said to refer to himself as single since the postponement, so possibly it's off entirely? Or maybe the two have decided to lay low in order to give Zack his turn in the spotlight without the constant reference to Julianne..
Zack obviously loves performing, but he has said that
Dance War is his “last shot” at a career in that industry before he heads off to dental school.
Carrie Ann Inaba and
Bruno Tonioli certainly think he has a shot at making it. Carrie Ann said he has “All-American appeal.” Bruno has said, "He's got a different feeling, like a gentleman…so strong, a real leading man.” With Zack leading his team, Bruno thinks his group of performers is “a slick, lean, song-and-dance machine."
