ABC's brand new dancing reality show is set to premiere in only a few days. On Monday, January 7,
Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann will air its two-hour premiere, and will feature
Bruno Tonioli and
Carrie Ann Inaba in a battle to see who can create the greatest singing and dancing supergroup.
Bruno and Carrie Ann will each lead two teams of male and female dancers throughout the competition.
"There will be a theme for each week, and we'll create production numbers featuring our groups in the most creative ways we can come up with,"
Dance War's Carrie Ann told
TV Guide.
Responding to confrontational nature of the show's title, Bruno explained, "Well, Carrie Ann
is smart, talented and very competitive—and I'm demented like a dog with a bone."
Unlike in
Dancing with the Stars, the sky is the limit in terms of dance style. There will also likely be dance-offs, "Like from
Soul Train, where they circle up, somebody goes in the middle, showcases their stuff and the next person hops in," Carrie Ann said.
Carrie Ann, whose background is in hip-hop and jazz, said that she's nervous about the new show, but Bruno, the highly excitable Italian who comes to us from the ballet world, is, well, excited. The thing he is excited about the most is that he doesn't actually know what's going to happen on the show.
The fate of the two rival dance teams will be placed in the hands of America each week. The captain of the lowest-scoring team, whether it be Bruno or Carrie Ann, will then be faced with the difficult challenge of eliminating one dancer from the team. The team of dancers who remain standing at the end of the competition will be given the opportunity of a lifetime: to go on tour as the opening act of a major performing artist.
The second season champ of
Dancing with the Stars,
Drew Lachey, will serve as host of
Dance War.
Who do you think will win the war?
