Cheryl Hines, famous for her role as
Larry David's wife on HBO's
Curb Your Enthusiasm, is teaming up with Quaker Oatmeal Co. in an attempt to help consumers improve their health. Using a little bit of stardom, the 41-year-old actress is now encouraging people to pledge to take the Quaker Smart Heart Challenge.
Hines, whose father suffers from heart disease and recently underwent open-heart surgery, considers this cause very close to her heart, which is why she encourages people to "get smart about their heart and get informed." But the
Curb star's efforts go beyond promoting a healthier lifestyle as it also aims to provide funding for people with heart disease.
For every consumer who takes the pledge, Quaker will donate $1 to the Larry King Cardiac Foundation and will be automatically entered for a chance to win a "Heart of New York Getaway" and to appear with Larry King in a new Quaker Oatmeal national newspaper advertisement.
King, an award-winning broadcaster who currently hosts CNN's nightly interview program,
Larry King Live, also suffers from heart disease and has already gone through a successful quintuple bypass heart surgery. He has established the Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) to offer funding for individuals who, due to limited resources, would otherwise be unable to receive the care needed for their heart disease. The LKCF shares the same objectives with Quaker Oatmeal to help prevent heart disease by encouraging people to eat right and exercise.
"As a marketing pioneer, Quaker led the industry in promoting the benefits of heart-healthy foods, such as oatmeal, to consumers. Today, we continue our leadership as one of the first companies to embrace consumers' real life success stories to inspire others to try it for themselves," Quaker Foods and Snacks Chief Marketing Officer, Marie Devlin, said. "We're hoping this new 'call-to-action' will encourage a new generation of real people and real results. And as further commitment, we're putting our own charitable dollars to work for Americans in need of heart health by supporting the Larry King Cardiac Foundation."
Pledges can be made through Quaker Oatmeal's official website. Meanwhile, fans can catch Hines on
Curb Your Enthusiasm every Sunday at 10pm on HBO.
