On
Curb Your Enthusiasm,
Larry David is known for his confrontational attitude, but the 60-year-old actor, who recently split from his wife Laurie, said he is unlike his on-screen persona partly because the show helps to him to live out his confrontation fantasies.
"That's the beauty of doing this show," David, known also as the creator of the hit comedy series,
Seinfeld, told the
New York Post. "I get to enact all these things that I really don't have the [courage] to do in my life."
Curb Your Enthusiasm, a comedy series that, funnily enough, is loosely based on David's life, premiered its sixth season on September 9. This fall, he continues to clash with friends and strangers alike, including patrons and clerks of various establishments, as well as a dry cleaning clerk played by Gina Gershon.
The new season, which is currently airing on HBO every Sunday night, features, aside from Larry David, returning cast members like
Jeff Garlin,
Susie Essman, Ted Danson,
Cheryl Hines, Mary Steenburgen,
Richard Lewis and Bob Einstein. The most apparent absence is Wanda Sykes, a fan favorite from previous seasons. Moreover, this fall's
Curb Your Enthusiasm will not feature guest-stars in the form of
Seinfeld alumni.
On the other hand, one of this season's most notable guest stars is California Senator Barbara Boxer, who made an appearance in the second episode.
"I know her," Larry David said when asked how he recruited the senator for the series. "She is my senator, right?"
Out of all the cast members of
Curb Your Enthusiasm, David revealed that Einstein and Essman are the ones who make it hard for him to keep a straight face during filming.
Of Essman, David said, “As soon as she opens her mouth, I start laughing. Anytime anybody berates me or curses me I start laughing immediately. In real life, it doesn't happen. That's why it's so funny because it's so unusual to be chewed out like that."
