A barrage of pretty major changes has confronted
CSI, one of the world's most watched shows, as it returns for its ninth season this October.
Some characters left, some came in, while some still will leave then return from time to time. "It's natural for shows to go through change,"
CSI executive producer Shankar assured fans. "The beauty of
CSI is that internally, it's very strong. We'd like to think that as much as the cast has created wonderful characters, the show is the star too. People tune in to mysteries, complex characterizations, plot twists, and great crime solving. That will continue.
We will all have to wait until October 9th before we know if these changes will make dent on the
CSI's stranglehold at the top of the ratings. Recently, however, a study revealed that
CSI fans rank fourth in terms of emotional attachment to the shows among those that are returning this fall. If these data are to be believed, the show that has the most emotionally attached fans is CBS' reality show
Survivor: Micronesia, followed by NBC's
Heroes, and Fox's
House.
CSI is on fourth spot, followed by
Survivor: China, ABC's
Grey's Anatomy, CBS'
Criminal Minds, the CW's
Supernatural, CBS'
NCIS, and ABC's
Desperate Housewives to round off the top ten.
CSI (147 pts) was 30 points below top finisher
Survivor: Micronesia (177 pts). These numbers supposedly indicate the commitment and, in turn, likelihood that key viewers will watch the show into its future episodes. According to the study, “the higher the number, the greater the attachment.”
If the proponents of the study were to be believed, the “Emotional Attachment Index” is a better measure of the “true” appeal of the program since it determines how fans feel about the show's actors, characters, and storylines – areas that
CSI is tinkering with of late.
