Anthony Zuiker, creator and executive producer of the
CSI franchise, is planning to write his memoirs. He has already signed a deal with Collins, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, which will release his book in the fall of 2009.
Tentatively titled
Mr. CSI, the book will tell the story of how Zuiker became a big name in Hollywood, tapping into his journey from bellhop in Las Vegas to creator of the hit
CSI franchise. More importantly, it will also be shedding light on his gangster father.
"Most shocking is Zuiker's recollection of his father's suicide in Las Vegas, which happened the night he was on stage at the People's Choice Awards collecting his fourth statue for
CSI," the publisher said. "In a scene that could have been pulled from the show, Zuiker flew right to the scene and attempted to piece together his father's last hours."
Zuiker was first known for his work on
CSI, the top-rated forensic drama starring
William Petersen that premiered on CBS in 2000. Two years later, a spin-off series called
CSI: Miami was developed, followed by another spin-off series,
CSI: NY.
At present, Zuiker produces all three editions of the
CSI franchise, which are shown in over 200 countries with an audience of 2 billion people. The franchise has had a large cultural impact and has spawned what has been called the
CSI effect, in which juries often have unreasonable expectations of real-life forensics because of what they have seen on
CSI.
"My life has certainly been one of extremes," Zuiker said in a statement.
From personal tragedy to professional success, Zuiker said these extremes "show that what may seem like bad luck or an accident of good fortune are in reality due to basic rules all of us can follow when making the decisions that affect our life and work."
