'CSI' Prepares For Catherine's Exit With a BFF and a Fling
Amidst all the buzz Ted Danson's entry has generated for CBS' flagship crime drama CSI, there's one more storyline that will define the show's current season: Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) is leaving the crime lab in the middle of the season. And the show's crew are getting ready for the goodbye by bringing three big names to send her off.

Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

First off, The X Files' Annabeth Gish is taking a recurring role on the show as Laura, an old friend of Catherine's who resurfaces after being apart for twenty years, TVLine reports. When the two bond again, Cath will notice something different with her friend: she may still be cheerful but she'll be a little more anxious and wary, possibly because of her rich husband who may be up to no good. Gish, who recently appeared on ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars, is slated to appear for at least three episodes.

Also joining the show is Matt Lauria, who plays Sac Pratt, an FBI agent who helps out with the Las Vegas crime lab on a major case. Judging from the fact that this guy's full of himself, I'm assuming he won't get along with the rest of the team. Lauria recently appeared on Fox's killed-too-soon drama The Chicago Code, and previously, on NBC's Friday Night Lights.

Lauria's character won't be the only FBI agent in town: his partner, Agent McQuaid, will also be coming with him, and he'll catch Catherine's eye somehow. Playing McQuaid is Grant Show, who recently appeared on HBO's Big Love and USA's Burn Notice. We're hearing that he and Catherine will end up with a "steamy affair" as the two's mutual admiration of each other will end in the bedroom. Hmm. Whatever happened to all those sparks with Detective Vartan last season, then?

The one sure thing: while we're all looking at how Ted Danson's D.B. Russell will shake things up in Vegas, we should also look at how Catherine will say goodbye -- perhaps with a bang? No, not that kind of bang.

CSI airs Wednesdays from 10pm on CBS.
