Since its premiere in October 2000, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has acquired 35 wins and 81 nominations from various award-giving bodies. And after seven seasons of the CBS forensic drama, cast member Gary Dourdan is still amazed at how the award-winning series remains to be a success.

"None of us were expecting this, certainly not this much success," Dourdan has told FemaleFirst. "When we got back from summer break, we were actually really surprised; the scripts were much better, there were stronger storylines and it’s good to go to work, I feel like I’m doing something."

However, the 40-year old actor has said that with the sensation of the show, many detractors have surfaced and have attempted to impede the progress of CSI. Nevertheless, they have not succeeded. "Critics hate us," he has revealed. "They keep on talking shows up to knock us off but they don't."

The success of CSI has also resulted to a lot of young viewers getting fascinated with the forensic aspect of the plot. Dourdan has said, "That's the most positive CSI effect, I do have lots of kids come up to me and going 'what job is it? I want to be a forensic scientist.'"

On the other hand, the popularity of CSI has also sparked some negative effects as it exposes information that can be beneficial to criminals. “There's some good and bad to it I suppose," Dourdan has explained. "That's what we get from law enforcement all the time, criminals watch our shows, this is what to see what not to do!"

While the show remains to be educational to the viewers, Dourdan feels that his participation on the show also gives him the opportunity to discover and learn the politics of police and science. "I’m learning something new everyday man… all these cops around, ex cops and current cops, real CSIs who are there for the terminology, explain in layman’s terms what it is,” Dourdan has added.
