csi:nyDespite filling the void with reruns, CBS' CSI: NY surprisingly thrives in the ratings, joining Criminal Minds as the only scripted drama to top the highly promoted premiere of ABC's Lost in terms of viewers.

CSI: NY, a police procedural drama about a team of forensic scientists who serve the New York City Police Department by investigating mysterious crimes and unusual deaths, was first in households (10.2/16), viewers (15.78m), but second behind the time period return of Lost in adults 25-54 (6.0/14), adults 18-49 (4.9/12) and adults 18-34 (3.7/10).  The forensic series won over the mystery-adventure series by over one million viewers (vs. 14.68m).

Compared to CSI: NY's first-run delivery this season, the show was up three percent in adults 18-34 (from 3.6/11) and retained 99 percent of both its household (from 10.3/17) and viewers (from 15.98m) deliveries, 97 percent of adults 25-54 (from 6.2/15) and 98% of adults 18-49 (from 5.0/12).

Meanwhile, fans can take a break from the stream of repeat episodes as CBS serves viewers with a new installment tonight. “Playing with Matches,” the 14th episode of season 4, finds the team investigating a victim who drowned in a self-cleaning restroom.  This storyline will reportedly shed light on the blurry line between real and virtual crime-solving as it taps on the cliffhanger on the episode “Down the Rabbit Hole.”  It will also include some “serious Danny-Lindsey action” as they work together on a case.

After tonight's fresh run, viewers will have to endure reruns of “You Only Die Once” on February 13, “Time's Up” on February 20, “Down the Rabbit Hole” on February 27 and “Boo” on March 5.

CSI: NY
stars Gary Sinise as Mac Taylor, Anna Belknap as Lindsay Monroe, Carmine Giovinazzo as Danny Messer, Eddie Cahill as Don Flack, Hill Harper as Sheldon Hawkes, and Melina Kanakaredes as Stella Bonasera.
