Aside from the procedural drama, another thing to look forward to in the upcoming season of
CSI: NY is the television debut of Will Dailey's first single. The singer-songwriter will be performing his single, “Rise,” in a special episode on Wednesday, October 17, two weeks after the release of his album Back Flipping Forward on October 2.
The album marks the first release from the newly launched CBS Records, a label that combines traditional music marketing with direct integration of its artists' music into television programming on the CBS and CW networks.
Dailey, who won the 2006 Boston Music Award for Best Male Singer-Songwriter, will also be featured in a commercial following his episode on
CSI: NY, which will “back announce” his performance and inform the viewers that the song and the album are available for purchase.
Dailey earned positive feedback after his performance in Los Angeles in July and was invited to perform early August on
CSI: NY in a scene with lead star
Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor).
“I did three songs, starting with 'Rise,' just me, solo acoustic,” Dailey, who was spotted by CSI creator and executive producer Anthony Zuiker, said. “I was a little shocked when he pulled me aside and said he'd like to put me in the show. It was a little hard to believe and pretty surreal.”
Back Flipping Forward includes songs that Dailey has worked on over a three-year span as inspired by the people he encountered while playing a series of cross-country tours. In addition to “Rise,” the upcoming album also features tracks like “Boom Boom,” “Bi Polar Baby,” “Dear Grace.”
“There are a lot of characters in songs like 'Hollywood Hills' and 'Eliza,' talking about fleeing to Mexico, spinning the tale of something that's definitely not the true life of a guy hanging out in Boston," Dailey explained. “'Within songs as ‘Good To Me' and ‘Undone,' the ideas of redemption and restlessness play out as if in an early Bruce Springsteen song.”
