csi: miamiCSI isn't the only forensic drama to lose a longtime cast member this year.  After the shocking exit announcement of Gary Dourdan, who is set to quit portraying Warrick Brown on CSI when his contract expires next month, the buzz is now pointing to Khandi Alexander, who is also planning to leave CSI: Miami when her contract expires at the end of this season.

According to TV Guide, which first reported Alexander's departure, a show insider has already confirmed the news though CBS has declined to comment on the hit procedural shakeup.  Moreover, Alexander's decision to leave does not reportedly involve a mutual deal with the network as she had some “issues” with certain aspects of the show.

On CSI: Miami, Alexander plays Dr. Alexx Woods, a Miami-Dade medical examiner who began her medical career in New York as a physician and then eventually became a medical examiner with the CSI team after moving to Miami for personal reasons.

Prior to CSI: Miami, which Alexander became a part of since 2002, the 50-year-old actress played the character Catherine Duke on NewsRadio and the recurring character Jackie Robbins on ER. Also well known for her starring role as a mother addicted to drugs in the mini series The Corner, Alexander made guest appearances on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NYPD Blue, and La Femme Nikita.  On the big screen, she was cast in CB4, Dark Blue, Sugar Hill, Menace II Society, There's Something About Mary, Rain, and Poetic Justice.

Meanwhile, word on the street is that CSI: Miami is already on the look out for a new medical examiner to fill in the void and that Alexander's replacement will be an up and coming male actor.

Fans can catch Khandi Alexander's final days as Dr. Alexx Woods on CSI: Miami, which airs every Monday at 10pm ET/PT on CBS.
