Previously on CSI: Miami, the team puts in great efforts to get a dangerous weapon off the streets in "Guerillas in the Mist."  This week, however, the team aims to get to the bottom of a murder case that entails a series of twists.  The mystery unfolds in “Miami Confidential.”

The 12th episode of the season bursts with a crime scene in a condo where Alexx (Khandi Alexander) and Ryan (Jonathan Togo) find a woman thrown backwards through a glass-top coffee table.  Just as Ryan puts up a fuming tent and tries to get prints from the scene, an oscillating fan sparks, which causes the tent to fire up.  The condo explodes just before Ryan and Alexx barely get out.

Calleigh (Emily Procter) and Sgt. Tripp (Rex Linn) explore the scene following the explosion, which has melted the victim's body.  The victim is also covered with burns, which means that evidence will most likely be affected.  On the other hand, Calleigh turns the body over and discovers that the victim's back, which was pressed against the floor, was protected from the fire.  Their investigation eventually leads them to a discovery of a meth lab, hidden from the rest of the living room in the apartment.

At the morgue, the team gathers more evidence that might point to the victim's killer.  Moreover, a melted plastic box found on the victim's body, which prompts the team to speculate that she was a narcotics agent.  More twists surfaces as the investigation leads them to a devious FBI agent with a secret life of his own.  Things become even more complicated when it is revealed that the victim was hiding another secret: she was pregnant.
