BuddyTV is looking at the 17 new shows the major networks will premiere this Fall to see which ones are worth getting excited about and which ones we have low expectations for.
Show Description: Based on the acclaimed Daniel Defoe novel
Robinson Crusoe,
Crusoe is a new take one the old story, with the action moving between the island where Crusoe is stranded for 28 years and Crusoe's former London home. Crusoe braves the elements and unexpected enemies.
When: Fridays at 8pm on NBC
Cast: Philip Winchester, Sean Bean, Sam Neill, Joss Ackland, Anna Walton
Anticipation: We don't really know anything about
Crusoe. It's a lot like one of those contestants on a reality show that glide through by never getting noticed. No one here at BuddyTV is waiting on pins and needles for this adaptation of a Daniel Defoe novel, but similarly, no one is dreading its arrival. Maybe it's a good thing to skate by in the middle of the pack, and then pounce on viewers when it premieres in October. But as far as anticipation goes, it's right in the middle of our list, exactly where it belongs.
Similar Shows: Crusoe appears to be going for a
Lost vibe, in terms of going back and forth between Robinson's current island life and flashbacks to his life on the mainland. The film
Castaway will certainly be an inspiration as well. However, it's hard to make any judgment as we really know very little about what the series will be.
