Derek Morgan is coming back to Criminal Minds ... again. Unsurprisingly (but unfortunately) it'll be another short stay. CBS has announced that Shemar Moore will guest star during Criminal Minds season 13, a week ahead of the premiere his new series, S.W.A.T., on CBS. Morgan won't be back for more than a single episode but it'll be an important one.

Why It Was the Right Move for Criminal Minds to Add Matt Simmons from Beyond Borders in Season 13>>>

Morgan will be stopping back by the BAU unit to help Penelope Garcia get through a particularly tough time. The case of the week during Morgan's return will dive back into Garcia's past and it'll stir up some things emotionally.

While this isn't Moore's first guest star visit since leaving the show in season 11, it is a significant one. Moore is soon set to be the lead on CBS' new drama, S.W.A.T. While this guest star spot isn't an indication that Morgan will be popping up on a semi-regular basis on Criminal Minds, it does leave the door open.

If a story really needs to involve Morgan, the possibility and precedent is there for S.W.A.T. and Criminal Minds to work out the actor's schedule. It might be a single appearance but perhaps Criminal Minds hasn't quite closed the door on Derek Morgan just yet. At the very least they have remembered how important his friendship is to Garcia.

Morgan will return in episode 5 of season 13, airing on Wednesday, October 25.

Criminal Minds season 13 airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on CBS. S.W.A.T. will premiere Thursday, November 2 at 10/9c on CBS. Want more news? Like our Criminal Minds Facebook page.
