We've known for a while that Paget Brewster would be leaving Criminal Minds after the conclusion of this season, but as to how her character Emily Prentiss would exit the show was still unknown. Would she be killed off (for real this time)? Would she be fired or move to another team? In a recent interview with TV Guide, the details of the finale and Prentiss' departure were finally revealed (warning: spoilers ahead!)

Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

Executive producer Erica Messer shared that the show would not be having a funeral for Prentiss, as they had "already buried her, so that would seem repetitive." Instead, they will be having an intimate wedding between either J.J. and Will or Garcia and Kevin. While this seems rather uncharacteristic of the show, Messer explained they were looking for something light to "balance out the darkness of the two hours and the bitterness of Paget leaving." So the two-hour finale will start with a rough Saturday involving a hostage situation, followed by a contrasting warm Sunday "to end the season on a happy note instead of blowing something up."

Prentiss' character is said to be leaving the BAU "to pursue other things," which is a parallel for the actress, who is leaving Criminal Minds to similarly pursue other opportunities. This conclusion still leaves the door open for Brewster should she ever want to return to the show, which means there's still a possibility Prentiss will be back. Though that may provide some comfort to Prentiss fans, her role will still leave some large shoes to fill, and we can only hope that whoever the showrunners decide to bring on will live up to the challenge (unlike some failed new characters brought on in the past.)

Who do you think will be wedded in the finale? Are you sad to see Prentiss go?
