Previously on Criminal Minds, the BAU team investigated a series of killings that occurred in rural areas around railroad tracks after learning that there's a serial killer who jumps trains and targets people living near the railway.  The episode featured Andre Royo, who had a starring role on the HBO program The Wire as drug addict and confidential informant "Bubbles" since the show's first season, and Meta Golding, who is known as Tina Brown on CSI and as Jennifer Mathis on Day Break, as guest stars.

This week, Two and a Half Men's Jane Lynch will be appearing on the police procedural drama in the episode entitled “The Instincts.”  Read on for a preview of tonight's episode.

In the sixth episode of the fourth season of Criminal Minds, Dr. Reid takes the center stage as he investigates the abduction of a young boy in Las Vegas.  However, the kidnapping case brings back buried memories from his childhood given that he was also previously kidnapped by a serial killer with multiple personalities, and tortured and drugged for days.

Joining the main ensemble on tonight's episode is Jane Lynch, who is also credited for Boston Legal, The L Word, and Help Me Help You.  She will guest star as Dr. Reid's Mother, Diana Reid. Unable to deal with the paranoid schizophrenia of his mom, Reid had his mother placed in a mental institution when he was 18.  At present, she is still there, though Reid has stated that he sends letters every day because of the guilt he feels for not visiting her.  Now, he must confront her as he deals with some questions about his past.

Don't forget to catch “The Instincts” tonight on Criminal Minds at 9pm ET/PT on CBS.  The series stars Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner, A.J. Cook as Jennifer Jareau, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Matthew Gray Gubler as Spencer Reid, Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, and Shemar Moore as Derek Morgan.
