Another Greendale student is about to leave Community. Following the exit of Chevy Chase at the end of season 4, now comes news that Donald Flover, who plays Troy Barnes, will have a reduced role in season 5.

According to Vulture, Glover has worked out a deal where he will only appear in five of the 13 episodes NBC has ordered for Community season 5. The deal was made so Glover can spend more time working on his music career as Childish Gambino.

This is certainly some distressing news for Community fans. Troy is one of the main characters of the series, and as Abed's best friend and Britta's boyfriend, he's deeply connected to the series. Without him, the show just won't feel the same.

This is just one of the many changes for Community season 5. Chevy Chase has left the series and original creator Dan Harmon is returning after parting ways with the show for season 4.

I can't even imagine what Community could look like without Troy, but I guess it's good Harmon is back to figure it out. The fifth season will return at mid-season, and given all of the changes and sagging ratings, it's incredibly likely that it could be the show's final season.

The only real hope for Community is that, starting this fall, Comedy Central will start to air reruns in syndication. When The Big Bang Theory started syndication on TBS, it helped the series grow even bigger with new episodes on CBS, so perhaps if the show gets solid support from Comedy Central fans, new viewers will find it and tune in when season 5 premieres on NBC.
