Premise: This CBS crime show is set in a Philadelphia Police Department that specializes in cold cases. Cold cases are crimes that have not yet been solved and is not currently being investigated, but ones in which new information or evidence could emerge.
Cold Case begins the same way each episode, with a flashback. A seemingly unimportant scene is shown involving friends and family and then flashes to a shot of a corpse. Someone in that first flashback scene is always involved in the crime and it's up to the cold case division of the Philadelphia Police Department to figure out who. They're put on the case after new evidence comes to light or a witness is willing to talk and try to solve what seems to be a dead end case. The show has often drawn on real life cases including the Chandra Levy murder case and the Columbine High School shooting.
Cold Case returns this September for its sixth season with star Kathryn Morris at the helm. Prior to joining the show in 2003, Morris had appeared in several films such as
Paycheck,
Minority Report, and
As Good As It Gets. On
Cold Case, Morris plays Detective Lilly Rush, a homicide detective with a painful past. Rush had a chaotic upbringing, with an alcoholic mother who died in the season 5 finale. Detective Rush has dedicated her life to work and doesn't spend much time socializing or dating.
Now in its sixth season,
Cold Case has proven to not only withstand the test of time, but stand apart from the endless amounts of crime shows that viewers are bombarded with each year.
