Bill Murray Talks Politics and Female Ghostbusters
Today marks the release date of City of Ember, the latest from the folks that brought you The Chronicles of Narnia films.  The adaptation of Jeanne Duprau's novel feature Saoirse Ronan and Harry Treadaway as Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, respectively—two children out to save the underground City of Ember, led by Mayor Cole (Bill Murray), before the power supply conks out and everybody dies.

Murray, whose appeared in numerous acclaimed roles, recently talked about his experiences playing a politician.  “They're kind of easy,” he quickly said.  “They're kind of clichés, you know?  They say one thing and mean another.  They talk out of both sides of their mouth—everything you could say horrible about them.  And yet they're always challenged by this ideal that, ‘Oh, what if I really were good?'”

He also talked about how he manages to get these kind of roles, despite not having representation.  “When I had representation, they would just call,” he said.  “They have secretaries who would call you. If you're in your home and the phone rings, the phone rings three, four, seven times—I can't get that now … Well, I don't have an answering machine, so the phone would just ring.  It would ring 100 times.”

Being one of the stars of Ghostbusters, he gave his two cents' worth on the reported third film, reportedly being written by two scribes from The Office.  “I hope they go back to the original version,” he said.  “The first Ghostbusters was such a funny movie, and the first 45 minutes of it or so—there's only maybe one or two special effects.  It's just these guys being funny, and the characters were really funny, and the situations were funny.”

He'd also like to see, among others, a female Ghostbuster if the film does materialize.  “I think it'd be funny to have a girl Ghostbuster,” he said.  “We don't have a girl Ghostbuster … I just think there's some funny girls I'd love to see be Ghostbusters.”
