You wouldn't think that Jeff and Lester would have a lot of fears. After all, they are far more likely to inspire fear into the customers who dare venture into the Buy More. But in tonight's fear-centered episode of Chuck, all sorts of fears -- both expected and surprising -- are revealed. Even the Buy More's resident duo of insanity fails to avoid the fear in "Chuck vs. the Aisle of Terror."
Chuck's Halloween episode has multiple storylines in play. At the heart of the plot, Chuck has both hopes and fears realized as his mother, the long-missing Mary Bartowski, returns to Burbank. It wouldn't be good to give away too much concerning her reasons for the return, but it's not all hugs and smiles in the Bartowski family this week. Meanwhile, Ellie confronts her fears about becoming a mother without a role model, a situation not helped by the return of Morgan Fairchild as mother-in-law Honey Woodcomb. Will Ellie's own mother make an appearance to calm her daughter's fears? The answer is surprisingly complicated.
Oh, and there's the villain. Such a villain! Robert Englund -- Freddie Krueger himself -- guest stars as Dr. Stanley Wheelwright, an evil inventor with a device that can inspire nightmarish fear in anyone. He's not such a nice guy.
Back at the Buy More, we have fear of a different sort. Morgan has delegated the task of Halloween decorating to Lester and Jeff, and the results are predictable in their disturbing nature. The titular "Aisle of Terror?" That's all Jeff and Lester. The Aisle highlights some of their own greatest fears and gives the viewers a frightening and hilarious look into
Chuck's two most twisted psyches.
While Lester and Jeff may have fears of black licorice and babies in costumes ("Is it a baby? Or is it a snail?"), those fears are not shared by the actors who play the Nerd Herders. When asked about their real fears, Scott Krinksy (Jeff) and Vic Sahay had, thankfully, very different responses.
Krinsky admitted to being somewhat afraid of the dark: "I don't know what it is about the dark. Like heights don't bother me. I'm not too afraid of heights, but the darkness..." Sahay both joked about having no fears ("I have no fears whatsoever. I'm impenetrable and powerful.") and brought up a fear shared by many. "There's some friends of mine whose parents are having health issues... And the fear of losing loved ones and that kind of illness, I think make me kind of shudder in pain."
Even when considering his more serious fears, Sahay could still joke. His other fear? "Sharks. Illness and sharks."
