Best friends are awesome. They're not entirely easy to find (good ones, at least), but when you do, you can rest assured knowing that person has your back no matter what happens.
I've known my best friend since fourth grade, but it wasn't until we were in college that we really cemented our friendship. So I can only imagine how close Chuck and Morgan are after BFF-ing it since childhood. Twenty-two years is quite a long time.
From Chuck's missing in action mama (which we will hopefully learn more about in a later episode) to getting kicked out of Stanford to breaking up with Jill to the incessant will they/won't they with Sarah, Morgan has always been there to support Chuck. Unfortunately, ever since the Intersect (and everything involved with it) entered the picture, there was a part of Chuck's life that Morgan couldn't know anything about. Until now.
Initially, fans suggested that Ellie would be the one to learn about Chuck's secret since Devon already knows the truth. There's certainly logic to that scenario, but I'm happy that it is Morgan that's finally in on the secret.
The whole scene when Chuck admits to his spying ways to spare Morgan from getting cut by a Ring agent was, to borrow an overused word from Ellen DeGeneres' American Idol vocabulary, great. And Morgan's reaction to the information? Even better.
When Chuck kept apologizing profusely for lying and generally being flaky for the past few years, Morgan's response: "My best friend is a spy?! This is unbelievable! This is the best news I've ever heard!" Add to that the giddy questions and helpful poking to make sure the baddies are out of commission, and I gather Morgan's a fine person to be in the loop. He's sure to stay loyal to Chuck, and if anything, he'll at least be able to provide some comic relief when Chuck is having a particularly difficult day being a spy.
Along with knowing about Chuck's double life, of course, comes danger. That's a given so I can understand Shaw's hesitance in allowing Morgan to stay out of witness protection. However, while things might get tough, if the past is any indication, I think the best buds can handle it.
Did the writers do right by letting Morgan in on Chuck's secret? Or would you have rather had Ellie find out? Or another character?
