In case you haven't heard, Chuck's a spy. He has the badge to prove it.
The job brings him to Washington, D.C. Spy guys aren't very friendly, but he finds the General's office eventually.
Once inside, Chuck gets his first assignment--pose as a wealthy expatriate. Sounds good, but Chuck isn't sure that he's ready to leave. General Beckman sympathizes and offers him a week off. Upon his return, she wants him ready to assemble his team.
Back in Burbank with flowers and chocolate, Chuck's ready to win back Sarah. Morgan, Devon, and Casey offer advice with their own agendas in mind: Casey and Morgan want out of Burbank, and Ellie (who received a yearlong sabbatical) won't do Doctors Without Borders in Africa with Devon if Chuck's in Burbank.
At Castle, Chuck's excited to talk to Sarah. But with emotionless acknowledgement of his passed test, she explains that she can't be with him. He's not the same guy she fell for. She saw him kill the mole, after all! He claims that it's more complicated than that, but she doesn't believe him.
In the Buy More, the mission to reunite Chuck and Sarah is in full swing. Morgan appeals to Jeff and Lester for help, and they offer to assist in wacky ways (like procuring Shaw's stool sample!), but Morgan only wants to borrow something.
Chuck alone at night plus headlights and screeching tires equals recipe for disaster. Thankfully, the commotion isn't spy related. Just his bros (Awesome, Casey, and Morgan) offering to help.
They spy Sarah and Shaw's date from their van headquarters, but they're not the only ones watching. The same man who extracted something from Perry's body earlier wants Shaw, too.
Suited up, Chuck heads toward the restaurant as Shaw gets a call that pulls him away. Using a voice manipulator, Morgan poses as a Ring operative and instructs Shaw to the alley. Shaw wields his gun and eventually finds Morgan.
In the alley, two Ring men approach them. Shaw avoids the taser using Morgan as a shield and clobbers the men before getting stopped by another agent who says the director wants to meet him.
Meanwhile, Chuck sits with Sarah. He reiterates that he wants her to come to Rome. He doesn't want any secrets between them but wants her to let him keep the one about who really killed the mole. He also agrees that he's not the same ambitionless guy she first met. Present Chuck knows that he wants to be a spy and wants to be with her! Before he can say anything else, Devon mistakenly tackles Shaw through the window and onto their table. Moment ruined.
At Castle, the General tells Shaw that the agent who tried to capture him also recovered a data drive with sensitive case files from the mole's body.
Rather than bring back the files, Shaw has a better idea. He volunteers to get taken by the Ring while they organize an air strike. Sarah calls him crazy for putting himself in danger, but Shaw's determined, saying he'll gladly trade his life for the man who killed his wife. He kisses Sarah, and of course, Chuck chooses this moment to walk inside. After Shaw swallows a tracking device, he tells Chuck to take care of Sarah and then leaves.
When Chuck learns about Shaw's voluntary suicide mission, he locks Sarah inside Castle so he can help Shaw. Why? Because he knows how much she cares about him.
Once with the Ring agent, Shaw gets frisked. They rip his shirt open to scan for a tracker (which painfully comes out of Shaw's mouth), and they're off.
Chuck arrives to find the tracker, but no Shaw. Conveniently, Lester, ready to prove his usefulness with Jeff, calls Chuck to say he's stalking Shaw. With a location, Chuck hurries off.
In a dark room, Shaw finds himself with the director who offers the answer he's been seeking. Watching footage of his dead wife, Shaw learns the truth: it was Sarah's Red Test to kill her!
Shaw's tased following a worthless punch to the holographic director, but Chuck comes soon after to help him, carrying him out just as the bomb drops.
At Castle, Chuck makes one last attempt to be honest to Sarah -- by saying he loves her. Once, twice, three times! He wants to spend the rest of his life with her away from the spy life like she suggested in Prague. He offers his own plan: Union Station, train to Mexico, seven o'clock. Chuck offers a kiss and one more "I love you" as he leaves.
While Sarah's packing, Casey drops by to reveal the truth about his mole killing. He says Chuck's not wired to be a killer like them. Sarah thanks him, and Casey tells her to have a nice life.
As Sarah ditches her gun on the way to the train station, a crazy-eyed Shaw bangs open her apartment door with a fabricated story. Shaw says there's no time to call Chuck.
At Union Station, Chuck gets an order from the General to report to Castle. Seems a video showing Sarah's Red Test/the night of Agent Eve Shaw's death was recovered from the Ring's wrecked bunker.
In the car, Sarah wonders where Shaw is taking them. "To settle an old score," he answers.
Loved ...
- Chuck's awkwardness: not remembering the floor of the General's office, trying to make small talk with the other spies, and complaining about not having a comfortable place to put his gun.
- Casey's attempt to present his resume (a civilian with extensive military background) to get on Chuck's new team. Ditto for Morgan proposing his invaluable talent of speaking Italian menu items.
- Sarah getting called a "fro-yo ho" by Jeff.
- Shaw's new nickname (the stallion) and his apparent ability to fill out a pair of slacks.
- Ellie having to pick up Devon from jail. And scolding him for it.
- Jeff and Lester's creepy affinity for stalking inadvertently leading to Shaw's safety.
- Lester calling Jeff the "Picasso of creepiness", my new favorite Jeff catchphrase "let's do the dizzle", and Jeff's stalker's log: "Stalkee is behind a gray van with another male, possibly for a sexual encounter. Both men are physically fit. Should be lively."
- Chuck smartly stroking Jeffster's egos by promising to tell his progeny of their amazing stalking skills.
- Casey using Morse code to talk to his old Marine buddies.
- Dr. Jibb vending machine!
Loathed ...
- Shaw blinded by the Ring's dirty dealings. You'd think he would have asked Sarah what happened the night his wife was killed, right? But the more pertinent question: where on earth is he taking Sarah?
