
Rhea Perlman caught viewers' attention when she was cast on the long-running comedy
Cheers. From 1982 to 1993, she appeared on every episode of the series and received an unprecedented 10 Emmy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which she won on four occasions. She portrayed Carla Tortelli, a waitress who outwardly expressed her disdain for a lot of people. In the course of the series, she had four children, married twice, and ended up having eight children by the time the show concluded. Before the year ends, the 59-year-old actress will marking her silver screen comeback with a romantic movie.
Currently in post-production stages is the film
Love Comes Lately, in which the former
Cheers actress stars as Reisel. The romantic drama also features Barbara Hershey and Elizabeth Peña with Jan Schütte as the director.
Aside from her character in
Cheers, Rhea Perlman was also noted for her roles on the sitcom
Pearl, in which she starred as Mrs. Pearl Caraldo, and on Kate Brasher as Abbie Schaeffer. On the big screen, she became part of the
Sunset Park, Canadian Bacon and in
Matilda as Zinnia Wormwood.
In addition, she also worked on several miniseries and tele-films, including
How to Marry a Billionaire: A Christmas Tale,
Stroller Wars and
A Tale of Two Bunnies.
After appearing on more than 40 sitcoms and movies, performing on Broadway and trying her hand at producing, Rhea Perlman remains associated to her iconic spiteful role on
Cheers, which brought comic relief to the series for more than a decade.
