American actor George Wendt was born on October 17, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Campion High School in Wisconsin, but was kicked out from the University of Notre Dame after a failure to study regularly resulted in him getting a 0.00 GPA. He applied himself more rigorously at the Jesuit Rockhurst College, earning a B.A. in economics. Wendt later on joined The Second City comedy troupe, starting out as a janitor before working his way to the stage. He has appeared on the original British version of Whose Line Is It Anyway, co-hosted Saturday Night Live with famed director Francis Ford Coppola, and his most famous role to date is as Norm in Cheers.

Norm Peterson is played by George Wendt in the classic award-winning sitcom Cheers. One of the bar’s ever-present customers, he starts out in the series as an accountant, though later on becomes unemployed before finding work as a house painter. He’s also revealed to have previously been an interior decorator and a highly skilled beer taster, capable of singling out a bad vat in a factory by drinking just one bottle. Even when unemployed, he ironically remains the bar’s most regular customer, with his tab running obscenely high. Every time he enters the bar is also a running gag throughout the series.
