Mary Carey was born June 15, 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio with the birth name Mary Ellen Cook. Because both her parents were mentally handicapped, her grandmother took her away when she was just three months old. Carey was legally adopted by her grandparents and they moved to Florida.
Mary Carey took up ballet and dance classes from the time she was seven-years-old until she was 19. She attended preparatory school in Pine Crest School, and was a straight-A student. At the age of 12, she made her stage debut by performing The Nutcracker with the Miami City Ballet. She enjoyed ballet and was offered dance scholarships by numerous institutions. But her body started to develop and it was not suitable anymore for a ballerina. Carey took up a major in theater at the University of Florida, where she was also part of the college dance team.
Her grandfather suddenly died of lung cancer while her grandmother's health also deteriorated. To help with the finances, Carey applied for jobs and ended up as a model for an adult internet site. She eventually worked as a stripper. Wanting to make more money by becoming a featured stripper, Mary Carey went to Los Angeles and started appearing on adult films.
She became famous for her themed movies. She was seen on the shows Totally Busted and Sexy Urban Legends aired over Playboy TV. For three years, she worked for Kick Ass Pictures. In 2005, she signed contract with Legend Video. Carey also appeared on Stag Film's Pervert!
In 2008, Mary Carey appeared on VH1's reality TV series
Celebrity Rehab . The show documents the experiences of celebrities as they undergo drug, alcohol and addiction treatment program. It chronicles their journey towards rehabilitation and recovery. Mary sought help for her addiction to Xanax, a drug for anxiety disorders, panic attacks and clinical depression.
