Steven Tyler, frontman of Boston-based rock band Aerosmith and father of actress Liv Tyler, has reportedly entered the Las Encinas Hospital's drug rehabilitation clinic in Pasadena, California where Dr. Drew's
Celebrity Rehab is staged.
According to website TMZ.com, the 60-year-old rock star will go through a detox in the infamous facility where Hollywood Madame Heidi Fleiss, rocker Sebastian Bach and pop star Aaron Carter will be treated as they make a public attempt at sobriety on reality TV program
Celebrity Rehab, which will start filming season 2 next month.
As of this moment, there is no word yet if Tyler's rehab stint will be part of the upcoming season of
Celebrity Rehab, the VH1 show that features several celebrities as they undergo treatment for various drug and alcohol addictions.
The news comes two years after Tyler publicly revealed he'd been diagnosed with hepatitis C, a blood-borne infectious disease infecting the liver. Tyler claims he has since cleared the disease from his bloodstream. While it is not known how he contracted it, users who inject illegal drugs can transmit the disease by sharing needles or other drug paraphernalia.
Obviously, the Aerosmith frontman is no stranger to addiction. Dubbed as “the Demon of Screamin'” he was known for his drug and alcohol abuse, which earned him and lead guitarist Joe Perry the nickname "the Toxic Twins." Tyler successfully received treatment for his disease and was going on over 20 years of sobriety prior this so-called setback.
Meanwhile, the aforemention celebrities aren't the only ones checking in the new season of
Celebrity Rehab. Troubled actor
Jeff Conaway, who left the first season prematurely, is also set to return in an effort to complete his treatment for his addiction to alcohol, cocaine and painkillers. Dr. Drew remains optimistic that Conaway will be making a full recovery this time around.
