Anthony Terrell Smith, a.k.a. “Tone Loc,” appears as one of the rapper mentors in the MTV reality television competition series Celebrity Rap Superstar. His celebrity apprentice on the show is
Perez Hilton . He is an American rapper and hip-hop artist who was born on March 3, 1966 in Compton, California. After attending University High School, he began working as a hip-hop artist, producing the singles “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina” during the late 80s. He named himself Tone Loc with Tone from his own nickname Tony, and Loc from the slang term which referred to members of the Crips street gang, which he was associated with. Smith is typically recognized by his hoarse, gravelly voice.
Apart from his musical productions, he has also worked extensively as a voice actor for various television series and feature films. Among the movies he’s worked on are Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest, Titan A.E., and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. He has also had roles in various television series, among them Static Shock,
King of the Hill , and Disney’s Aladdin. He also lent his distinct voice to the animatronic robot Fud Wrapper, who hosted Walt Disney World’s old Epcot attraction Food Rocks. At present, Smith is associated with the record label Delicious Vinyl.
