Cavemen, born of insurance commercials, plummeted in the ratings last night, down about 20 percent from its series debut last week.
Cavemen's numbers last week were promising, but I, like many others, were suspicious that the ratings would be inflated for that first episode simply out of curiosity. Everyone I knew was at least a little curious how
Cavemen turned out, how ABC turned an ad campaign whose star was make-up into a half-hour comedy/satire on racism. It's a crazy experiment by ABC and, to be fair, the reaction was mixed. No one appeared to love
Cavemen, but a significant amount of viewers liked it. I think the most common reaction to
Cavemen was that it wasn't a total disaster. This may be reflected in the week to week ratings.

The good thing with Cane is that its ratings this week were almost identical to its ratings last week. So ...
Highest Rated Show of the Night: House – 17.7 million viewers
8pm Time Slot Winner: NCIS - 16.1 million viewers
9pm Time Slot Winner: House
10pm Time Slot Winner: Law and Order: SVU – 12.2 million viewers
Bones came in second at the 8pm time slot, behind the mysteriously popular
NCIS.
Bones edged the ABC duo of
Cavemen and
Carpoolers, which received 7 million and 7.3 million viewers, respectively.
Beauty and the Geek added 500,000 viewers from last week to end up with a respectable 3.2 million person audience.
House again dominated the 9pm slot, beating the
Dancing with the Stars results show (16 million viewers) in both total audience and key demographics.
The Unit garnered a nice 11 million person audience, while the CW's
Reaper lost almost 200,000 viewers, ending up with 2.6 million.
Boston Legal came in second in the 10pm slot with a respectable 11 million viewers.
Cane came in third with 9 million.
Cane has been somewhat of a disappointment thus far for CBS, but it's not unthinkable that the show will eventually find its audience.\
