Bill English was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He was educated at North Carolina School of the Arts acting conservatory which trained him for his first Broadway appearance which happened in 2004. Appearing alongside Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche, he starred in 20th Century. English appeared on television as Dan McGillen in the series The Pavement in 2003 and three years later appeared on the independent movie entitled The Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell. In 2007 he was cast for a television series entitled Cavemen, where he plays Joel.

Joel is played by Bill English in the television series Cavemen. Joel is one of three modern day cavemen who strive for acceptance in the suburban community they live in. He is torn between his best friends Jamie, who is laid back about their situation, and Nick, who doesn't believe in mainstream society.
