Many upcoming shows have been revamping their cast members for some fine-tuning before going on air. Just like ABC’s
Private Practice and CBS’
Moonlight, the upcoming sitcom
Cavemen has made some changes in its principle ensemble. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Huntington has been added to the show.
Sam Huntington, a 25-year-old actor, is known for his role as Jimmy Olsen in Bryan Singer's
Superman Returns. His other credits include
Detroit Rock City, Not Another Teen Movie, and
Rolling Kansas.
On
Cavemen, Sam Huntington is set to play Andy, the younger brother of Joel (
Bill English) who comes to Atlanta to visit after breaking up with his girlfriend. Consequently, the addition of Huntington results to the exit of
Dash Mihok, who was originally cast to play the character Jamie.
Inspired by the GEICO Cavemen advertisements, the pilot was ordered by the network in March with uncertainty of whether the original actors, Jeff Daniel Phillips and Ben Weber, in the advertisements were also going to be part of the television show. Gradually, cast members of the series were revealed in the news, including
Nick Kroll,
Kaitlin Doubleday, Bill English, Dash Mihok,
Stephanie Lemelin, and
John Heard.
As of the moment, Mihok is the only actor who was replaced on the show.
Since the show’s announcement at ABC's 2007-2008 upfront presentation,
Cavemen has been referenced in the jokes of shows like
Saturday Night Live and
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. With mediocre to frail reviews, the show attempts to improve its reputation with premature re-casting and some changes in the storylines as well.
On the other hand, the series will still continue to revolve around three modern cavemen, Joel, his younger brother, and Joel’s best friend Nick (Nick Kroll) as they struggle to live normal lives in Atlanta, Georgia, while enduring present-day society’s discriminations.
ABC and the show's producers have also decided to shelve
Cavemen’s premiere episode for now. Instead, the network will be launching a not yet filmed episode focusing on the cavemen's back-stories. The original pilot episode will be held for later in the series, with Huntington re-shooting the scenes that featured Mihok's character.
