Excited are the members of the Battlestar Galactica fandom for the upcoming kick-off of Caprica on January 22. The prequel of BSG, set 58 years before the reimagined series when the Twelve Colonies are at peace, will start things off with an R-rated pilot that debuted exclusively to DVD on April this year. If critics are to be believed, the pilot is intense and wrought with moral dilemmas and emo characters, plus of course, Eric Stoltz.

As if all the ruckus isn't enough, SyFy recently unveiled a poster featuring a nude Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Torresani) clutching an apple ala Desperate Housewives. "What we love about this image is that it invites many different points of view or opinions, and they're all valid," says Mark Stern, SyFy executive vice president.

Yet far more than titillation, the poster represents the key art and the signature image of the new series. Stern adds that one of the baffling questions that Caprica aims to answer is in regards to technology.

"It deals with our relationship to technology and the question of 'When is too much knowledge a bad thing?' Knowledge and technology can turn against you and can be dangerous weapons," he said.

After the two-hour pilot, 19 more one-hour episodes will follow its January 22 kick-off. The eight subsequent hours will air through March, then it goes to a break until finishing off the remainder in the second half of the year.

Caprica, which also stars Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson, Polly Walker, and Sasha Roiz, among others, also tells the story of the invention of the mechanized Cylons.
