Reviews are generally mixed for the pilot of the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica, which premiered on DVD in April. The two-hour pilot, which will kick off on January 22 on SyFy, got varied receptions, from positive comparisons with BSG to a "lack in life-or-death intensity" still in relation to its much-celebrated sequel.

As January 22 is still a good month away, io9.com has released stills from the pilot episode of Caprica, which carefully noted the "flaws" in the Graystone and Adama families and their friends that launched the Cylons (Caprica begins with the creation of the first Centurions and will wrap up with the first Cylon War).

58 years before BSG, Daniel Graystone is a genius computer programmer who's working on a prototype for a robotic super-soldier that will become the basis for the Cylon Centurions. Working for her is Pryah, played by Luciana Carro, who is Kat on BSG. Eric Stoltz, of course, plays Daniel.
